内容提要：
该书为高等师院校英语专业合英语教材第四册,供二年级学生第二学期使用全书有16课和2套复习题。该书具有如下特点：课文以论说文为主；词汇量丰富，在级以上；学与练相辅相成；练习围绕课文内和语言现象设计，形式灵活。该由经验丰富的教学者编写审校而成，是一本优秀的高等学校教材。
本册教材中的课文以论文为主。大部分文章出自名家之手，题材广泛，语言活泼，富有生活气息，且易于模仿。
本书的写作部分集中练习正规书信。一般来说，商业信件较正工，所以，练习中供学生模仿的部分样件是商业信件。
